Warriors News · Baseball Drops A Doubleheader Against Chiefs

The Waverly varsity baseball team lost a tough doubleheader at home to Okemos yesterday.  Okemos jumped out front in the 1st inning 2-0 on four hits.  Waverly responded in the bottom of the 3rd scoring 3 runs to take a 3-2 lead.  The Warriors loaded the bases on a couple of Okemos errors and Andrew Kerrigan made it hurt with a big two out two run single.  Both teams plated runs in the 4th inning with the Warriors hanging on to a 4-3 lead.  Waverly scored on a single by Joe Luzbetak.  Okemos tied things up on back to back doubles in the top of the 5th making it a 4-4 ballgame.  The Chieftains took the lead for good in the top of the 6th 7-4.  The Warriors brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 7th but ended up stranding 2 runners.  The first game deflated the young Warriors as Okemos dominated the nightcap winning 10-0.  Andrew Kerrigan had the lone hit for Waverly in the loss.  The Warriors are 8-9-1 on the season and travel to East Lansing for another league
match up at 4pm on Thursday.
